Site Testing Services

Professional on-site testing, wherever you need it.

We bring the lab to the field — delivering fast, accurate data to support your construction and geotechnical decisions.

We offer fast, reliable on-site testing to assess ground conditions and compaction quality across a wide range of projects. Our experienced team uses industry-standard equipment to deliver accurate results directly from the field, helping contractors, engineers, and project managers meet specifications and stay on schedule. From initial earthworks to final compliance checks, we make sure your site is ready to build on.

Services

We offer a comprehensive range of on-site testing services to assess ground conditions, material performance, and compaction quality. Using industry-standard methods like the Benkelman Beam, Clegg Hammer, Scala Penetrometer, and Shear Vanes, our experienced technicians deliver fast, IANZ-accredited results that help keep your project on track and up to spec.

Benkelman Beams

A Benkelman Beam is a field testing device used to measure the deflection (flexing) of pavement under a standard wheel load. It helps assess the strength and performance of flexible pavements by detecting how much the surface bends when loaded. This information is commonly used in pavement maintenance and rehabilitation planning.

Clegg Hammer (CIV)

The Clegg Hammer Test is a rapid field test used to assess the compaction and strength of soils or pavement layers. It involves dropping a weighted hammer from a fixed height and measuring the impact deceleration (Clegg Impact Value). The results help determine if a surface is properly compacted and suitable for construction or traffic loads.

Nuclear Density Testing (NDM)

Nuclear Density Testing (NDM) is a field method used to measure the in-place density and moisture content of soils or aggregates. It uses a nuclear gauge to emit radiation and assess how compact the material is. At TestLab, we offer both Backscatter (surface-level) and Direct Transmission (probe inserted into the material) methods to suit different site conditions and accuracy requirements.

Scala Penetrometer

The Scala Penetrometer Test measures the strength and compaction of shallow soils by driving a cone-tipped rod into the ground using a standard drop weight. It provides quick, reliable data on subgrade conditions for pavements, foundations, and earthworks.

Shear Vane

The Shear Vane Test measures the shear strength of soft to firm cohesive soils by inserting a vane into the ground and rotating it to determine the soil’s resistance. It’s a simple and reliable test for evaluating soil stability in shallow layers.

Static Plate Load

The Static Plate Load Test measures the bearing capacity and settlement behaviour of soil by applying controlled loads to a steel plate placed on the ground surface. It provides a direct assessment of how the ground will respond under load, helping engineers evaluate foundation performance and ground stability.

We’re committed to providing fast, reliable site testing wherever it’s needed — arriving quickly, equipped to handle any challenge, and ready to deliver accurate results every time.
